I love fabric. And I love girlie goodies. But what I love most is simplicity.
The froofy, poofy, ruffly tutus…meh, I’m just not a fan.
But these…. now these are a different story. I stumbled across a pin on Pinterest over a year ago, but it wasn’t linked to a tutorial– only an Etsy shop. I couldn’t shake the cuteness, so I finally set off to experiment with making one myself. The first one didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted, but numero dos was JUST right. With the holidays coming up, these just make the perfect accessory for photos, holiday parties or quick and easy gifts! So rather than make three dozen to sell, I just want to tell YOU how to make these cuties yourself. You can always embellish them around the waist too. ADORABLE. {And if you decide to make your own, I would LOVE to see them, so tweet or instagram those tutus tagged #scrappyfabrictutu}
Materials: 1/2 or 3/4 inch elastic, 1.5 yards of fabric {1/2 yard of at least three different coordinating prints– or bust your stash and make it super scraptastic!}, rotary cutter {recommended, but not necessary}
- Cut your strips approximately 22×1.5-2 inches. I vary the widths just slightly per pattern of fabric.

- Measure your little one and stitch your elastic together accordingly. I like to make my elastic loop approximately 1 inch smaller than the actual waist size.

- Hold the ends of your strip so that it makes a “U.” Slide the ends, printed sides down, underneath the elastic waist and pull the ends up over the elastic and back down through the loop left in the middle of your “U.” See pictures for a much clearer illustration.

- Keep on going strip after strip, pushing your strips together into as you go. Before long, it will look like this!

And voila…you’re done!
{I’m also linking up today over at Sew Chatty’s Made With Love linky party today! Scoot on over and check it out!}
