A Pre-Party for Blake Riley {With Recipe}

This past Saturday I had the special privilege of hosting a little baby shower for my sister-cousin, Kayla’s, soon-to-be-here baby girl! (Our mommas are sisters and we are both only children so that official makes us “sister-cousins” by our estimation.) She and her husband picked out the name Blake Riley. Isn’t that just adorable? I figured that they were just paying homage to my love of fabric courtesy of Riley Blake. *wink* I’m pretty sure that they had no idea though.

Unfortunately with my mind primarily devoted to prepping the new house, I took almost zero pictures. Thankfully our sweet friend Ashley was on the ball and got lots of great shots. That said, I think that we all forgot to take pictures of Kayla and I. Oops!

Never fear, I did snap a couple of cute pictures to share. Pull up a chair and enjoy…and then go get some food. This post will make you hungry. (And let me just add that the cherry almond cake and the lemon raspberry cupcakes made it almost worth the horribly itchy skin that resulted from indulging in gluten-y goodness!)

Mary Lou's Doughnuts and Frozen Fruit Salad-- YUM! (breakfast casseroles and bacon skewers not pictures)

And some sweet little plushie love…

Just to share a little love with you, I thought that I would pass along the recipe for the Frozen Fruit Salad. My mom loves to keep this made and in the freezer all summer long. It’s terrible for you, but since it has the words “fruit” and “salad” in it, you might be able to convince yourself that it’s healthy. My mom is the size of a 4th grader though– so she can eat whatever she wants. Lucky duck!

Frozen Fruit Salad:

3 cups sugar
3 cups water

Mix this together and let it come to a boil…then set aside to cool

Crushed pineapple – 1 lb. 4 oz. can with juice
6 bananas – chopped fine
12 oz. can frozen orange juice with 1 juice can of water
Mandarin oranges and/or strawberries
Maraschino cherries – 1 small jar chopped with juice

Mix together and place in freezer.  Stir 3 or 4 times.  Remove from freezer awhile
before serving.

(Be forewarned: You will need a LARGE container!)
